Custom Redwood Planters + Hugelkultur Method
This project transformed two failing steel planters into custom-built redwood raised beds, designed for durability, deeper soil, and a more natural aesthetic. By implementing the Hugelkultur method as the foundation of these planters, these beds now function as living systems— retaining moisture, building rich soil biology, and supporting long-term plant health. The result is a resilient, low-input garden space built to thrive season after season.
A Playful, Purposeful Garden: Designing for Food, Flowers, and Pollinators
This project was built around the client’s desire for a flexible, joyful garden—one that supports food growing while leaving space for creativity, experimentation, and seasonal bursts of flowers. Working within a defined budget, we cleared and reimagined a portion of the site to create a custom 32 sq ft redwood planter finished with an all-natural tung oil. A decomposed granite pathway provides easy access, while surrounding planting areas were seeded with cosmos and poppies to attract pollinators in the short-term while inviting the client to add her own plants and flowers over time. The result is a small but highly-functional garden nook designed to evolve with the seasons and the client’s hands-on approach to growing.
